Transformation of PowerBuilder Applications to a Modern Technological Platform for a Leading Financial firm

 A Leading Financial Institution in New York State. It is a Federally-chartered wholesale bank providing a reliable source of liquidity to financial institutions

Our Solution

  • Sun Technologies executed assessment, estimation and Proof-of-Concept (POC) to deployed such complex long haul activities
  • A confirmation was provided to customer that our transformation process would provide the flexibility to support their standard choice of Java options
  • Recommended a new JSF framework which is an event driven based MVC2 framework for the conversion
  • PowerBuilder to JAVA Tool changes PowerBuilder Application into JSF Based J2EE application with least or no manual refactoring
  • The converted J2EE parts are built utilizing industry standard open source Myfaces segments to handle rich UI Lookup
  • All PowerBuilder functions were translated into equivalent JAVA functions with same hierarchy as in PowerBuilder functions
  • Consistent communication with the customer was ensured on week by week premise to update the progress

  • To convert legacy application to a modern technology platform
  • To eliminate the redundant applications and database centralization
  • To upgrade various platforms and user interface enhancement
  • To convert PowerBuilder reports to a more modern reporting solution

Impact

  • Offshore- Onshore model was followed for project execution with development, design and Pre- IST system carried out at the offshore center
  • A methodology of Agile/ RUP development was adopted to allow the intermediate validation and to reduce the development cycle time
  • The deliverables are divided into sets of different Used Cases for easy approach

  • Pre- requisite investigation of the existing PowerBuilder applications was made before modernizing the applications
  • We have initially transformed 105000 plus line program and later was awarded to modernize the remaining existing applications
  • We have carried out R & D related work to understand customers’ development framework with high level and low level design
